Have I seriously never written a review for Hermann's? That is a shame. For months when I started working in Royal Oak every friday my friend and I would walk down to Astoria for an over priced dessert. One day we decided why not try the little bakery across the street. Words cannot express how happy I am that we decided to try Hermann's that day. Do not waste your money/time going across the street to Astoria, Hermann's has amazing treats, and their prices are even better. I don't even know where to start in my love affair with Hermann's. Let's start at the beginning. I cannot walk into Hermann's without getting a chocolate covered dunker, it's actually physically impossible (unless they are out, them running out is the only reason I ever found to try anything new, which ended up being a good thing). Their raised glazed donuts are melt in your mouth delicious (also love the chocolate covered). The apple cinnamon muffins are flawless, light and airy, perfectly spiced. The Koppenhagen bars are surprising and completely addictive. One day I happened to notice they had "Spaghetti Bread" they only make it every other Wednesday. I ate 3 pieces before I could stop myself. It's amazing. Go, right now and buy some. Lastly, we had a Grand Opening event at work and needed desserts. Of course my very first thought was "we must get them from Hermann's" there wasn't even another option in my head. We did price out other options (Almost DOUBLE the price of Hermann's for far less food, and far less tastey food). We ended up getting 11 dozen bite sized desserts for under $80! Everything was amazing. I of course, had to sample almost every kind. I wasn't let down by even a single dessert. We had so many compliments! I would (and do) suggest Hermann's to anyone! It is a must go to location in Royal Oak! They have been her for 60+ year and I pray they will be here 60 more years! Oh heads up - CASH ONLY!

AMAZING pastries! Excellent selection and at a good price! This place could use a good scrub and some better coffee though. Great to just pop in. I took a morning class at OCC, ran 4 hours ever Wednesday, with a 20 minute break. Always had to pop over during the break and grab a treat!

I loves me a great bakery, and Hermann's is a GREAT BAKERY. This is the place I get my pÄ…czkis every year for "PÄ…czki Day" (pre-order or you may be SOL). But their cakes are fantastic. King cakes are great as well. But what keeps me coming back? Their BREAD. The Sandwich White and even more so, their RYE BREAD is AMAZING. Family owned and operated for a few generations, this is the definition of BY LOCAL!!

Hermann's had a stand at the Royal Oak Flea Market, mixing two of my favoite things, shopping and dessert made it a nobrainer that I was getting something here. They had a huge selection of fairly priced loaves and pies but I was trying to not overdue it and stuck to the must haves. A voodoo donut which turned out to be my least fav, just had to have it, but it was kind of stale. The nut bar, an absolut must, in fact they had several small bars that all looked amazing at $1 each. Pecan rolls are always great, standout were the apple donut with real apple chunks and the cream filled was very very good, fresh, and worth going back for! makes me want to check out their actual bakery to see what else they have!

I'll admit to being a bit of an elitist when it comes to coffee and donuts. Hermann's have best cinnamon sugar cake donuts in the area. Their dunkers are also good. This review doesn't apply to anything other than those donuts ;-) Cash only.

Go to spot on a lazy Saturday morning. I'm such a carb whore, love me my bread. They've got great bread ends (cheese, garlic parma), which I didn't know existed until I moved out here. Pop it in the microwave for 15 seconds they it comes out so warm and soft. They've got your standard pastry items, as well as some stuff I've never seen before (Chili bread? was tempted to try it, maybe next time, wasn't that hungry) The staff there are great honest people. I once paid ~$4 total for some items, and I was thinking it seemed a little high given my past visits but didn't think too much of it, but after I left, the guy who rang me up ran out to catch up to me and give me a dollar and some change, saying he had just spaced out an realized he had accidentally rang me up double for a couple items.

Hermann's is having Christmas in July! From the 24th to the 28th, they will be making all the holiday favorites! Fruitcake with your mojito, anyone?

Hermann's Bakery continues to be one of my favorite gems in Metro Detroit. The staff is friendly and the food is good AND affordable. Let me expound... Where else can you get a delicious potato knish and two pastries all for under $4?? Hermann's also offers the most affordable cupcakes in town, at just under $1.00! Why go anywhere else??? The cupcakes are both flavorful and moist inside. Pastries are delicious and I really, really like the potato knish. YUM. You can afford baked goods for both yourself and your friends or your office staff. The choices are endless and really, seriously, truly, these prices can not be beat, at least not for the high quality that Hermann's provides. The decor is cool too, conjuring up an earlier era. Enjoy!

Hermann's is pretty solid for the most part. The baked goods are fantastic and the service is great, it definitely has a small-town feel. My only gripe with Hermann's is that because they back their muffins the day before and then freeze them overnight, they are often still cold when they first open. Best plain donuts in Royal Oak, though!

Hermann's is a Royal Oak Classic. It reminds me of my Grandma in the best way. Their cheesy bread ends are a staple at all of our family gatherings, and you can get the most simple and delicious little sweets for like fifty cents. I have secretly been on the edge of my seat for fear that they might close down because of downtown R.O.'s infamously high rent, which has forced out a lot of awesome businesses in the past. I would cry.

Hermann's is the best of 'old fashioned'. It's not a fancy, glitzy shop - it has a small town feel. I ordered my daughter's wedding cake from them and they went out of their way to be sure we got what we wanted. (I decorated the cake myself, but bought just bare layers from them - not many bakeries will sell that to cake decorators anymore.) Wedding cake (pound cake) is usually nothing to rave about, but Hermann's is fabulous. It's moist but still firm enough to hold up a several tier wedding cake. They even offer a free little anniversary cake to anyone who got their wedding cake from them. When we hadn't ordered that before the anniversary they called to remind us to get a free cake. Name one other shop that would go out of their way to give a customer something for free! I can't say enough good things about the cake and customer service.

A week before Christmas I wanted to order four pies for Christmas Eve and was told I could only pick them up on Christmas Eve from 3 PM to 5PM. I told them I could only pick them up before 11 am and was told I could only pick them up between the two hour window. It struck me as very odd considering they opened early on Christmas Eve. I've probably ordered baked goods from close to a dozen other bakeries and they have always asked me what time I wanted to pick up my purchase. It's always based on the consumers convenience and not what works out best for the bakery. Hermann's seems to have it mixed up. I've been going to Hermann's for years and I would have given them four stars. Based on the perplexing buisness decision I mentioned above I can only give them one star and I won't be going back.

Best cheese danish in the world. As well as beef pasties, knish, and dill pickle soup. On Friday's they have a spaghetti bread that will blow you away. I have to really talk myself out of going in here on a daily, because absolutely everything in this place is delicious.

What's there not to like about Hermann's? It's been around for 100 years for a reason. It's one of the best bakeries in the Detroit area. I shop here 2-3 times a week for the freshest bread and rolls, not to mention the sweeter stuff. In a world of chain-owned "bakery-cafes" it's nice to see a place like this thrive. It's the real deal!

Wow, Hermann's is like visiting your grandma's kitchen! It's authentic home made goodness. Everything is so delicious! My wife and I love stopping by about once a week minimum and picking up some "goodies" to last us through the week. I highly recommend Hermann's to anyone looking for some good baked goods.

It reminds me of a bakery we go to when we visit a little lake town in the thumb. It is very small town and old-fashioned. The donuts are excellent, but this trip I brought in my gaggle of little people and told them all to pick what they wanted. The man behind the counter was very patient as the five of them decided. My total=$5.00. If I had gone across the street and told them to pick whatever they wanted, I would have spent $20.00!

Tasty treats. Reasonable prices. Adorable, friendly people behind the counter. Just remember to bring cash.

Everything I have had from Hermann's has been delicious. Onion rolls, bread, sour cream donuts and a cinnamon pecan kringle to name a few. This place is old school and not fancy - I don't need fancy when it tastes so damn good! The prices are great - I am always surprised when they tell me my total. So affordable! Cash only, though.

I've been eating baked goods from Hermann's since I was a kid. My mom (and my aunts) always had a freezer full of the flat top bread and at Thanksgiving and Christmas we always have the Parker House rolls. It's a Royal Oak institution and one of the best bakeries in Detroit. The English Muffin Bread is one of my favs and the cherry ring strudel coffee cake is gonzo. The sour cream glazed donuts are so off the hook it's crazy and all the breads there make the most amazing grilled cheese sandwiches or it's great just toasted. Lastly, the pasties are really good and I'm not even a fan of pasties but we had a U.P.er (that's yooper) party a few years ago and bought several dozen pasties and they were phenomenal!
